Changing picture books
An innovation of the 19th century was the changing picture storybook, whose most important creator was the German graphic artist Lothar Meggendorfer.
His comic characters and scenes depicted scenes from life, whereby the ear protruding from the book would be moved to transform the image into another image, i.e. a rider riding a horse in one image would fall off the horse in another, or the landscape surrounding the characters would be transformed from summer to winter in one movement.
